Hello All-
I am part of the steering committee to Connecting Communities and wanted to drop a blurb about their blog. I want to see us connect. The URL address is below...
I pasted a brief blurb about the group but the site has more information for you.

The Story of Connecting Communities

Historically, the Americans with Disabilities Act brought all the disability advocacy groups together in 1990 to establish, once and for all, a minimum standard of civil rights for people with disabilities. This was a unique and powerful alliance, but the unity of purpose faded with time. Staff and board members at Portland Habilitation Center Northwest persisted in asking why can’t we recapture that spirit and get together as a disability movement, like the ADA. So in 2008, Portland Habilitation Center Northwest reached out to a small group of leaders in the disability community and they joined together with the vision to connect the many bodies of their community. The result was the inaugural Connecting Communities event in October 2009. It is our plan that Connecting Communities will unite and celebrate all people living in our community; raise statewide awareness of disability advocacy organizations and organize members to form a more unified coalition.
